Students in the Northern California area have an exciting heritage, and we have created the perfect opportunity for them to explore it while working in a little ‘farm-tastic’ fun.
Hawes Farms is on the banks of the Sacramento River (see Farm Panorama), and the Hawes family has been farming and ranching in Shasta County for five generations. The educational resource farm that the younger generation has developed at Hawes Farms is an exciting learning venue for local students.
Old Deschutes Mine Field Trips give teachers the opportunity to expose students to the history of gold mining, the operation of a mining sluice, and information on geology and gemstones — all dependent on the student age group. There are curriculum opportunities for all ages.
Students and chaperones – $8.00
Teachers are free
This field trip includes tours of the mining sluice. We provide each student with one bag of ‘rough’ for actually panning themselves. Extra bags can be purchased for your class upon request. We encourage full participation in the gemstone mining venture, as students always enjoy finding hidden treasures like the prospectors they have studied about!
This field trip may also include:
Online curriculum materials for teachers, hayride, a ride on the Cow Train, visit with our racing pigs (October only), the Barnyard Jump (jumping pillow), rounds on the Pumpkin and Corn Cannon (Cannon’s only available in October).
